Just got contact recently and I thought I'd gotten the hang of taking them in and out. but tonight I got stuck (or rather thought I got stuck) taking out one of them. I tried for maybe half an hour. I kept pinching it and pulling at it and it wouldn't come off and I thought I was going crazy. then I decided to look around on the bathroom floor, and low and behold - it had alrady come out and fallen on the floor. my worst nightmare come true - I have no idea what I was pulling at in my eye, but it was something. Could I have seriously damaged my eye. it's all red now but I don't feel major pain. Does anyone know what it was I was pulling at?

you did not likely damage your eye. when your eye gets injured, its very common to feel like something is still in there. its called "foreign body sensation". unless your eye is red/painful the next day, dont worry about it.
